Interning at the NYC Department of Transportation

Sean Connor, Verrazzano Class of 2020, Completed Major in Computer Science

Throughout my internship at the Department of Transportation as a College Aide II-III with the Quality Assurance team, I met many caring and knowledgeable people who gave me guidance on all of the projects I was working on.
The projects that I was assigned to helped expand my knowledge into how the IT infrastructure works for city agencies.  My co-workers and especially my boss showed me how to estimate time needed for various tasks, create test scripts, and finally communicate and resolve software issues through carefully documented testing.
My experiences at my internship taught me more than I ever expected to learn.  I assisted in testing and specifically developing automation scripts.  From this experience, I was able to grasp an understanding of how automation works and develop a boilerplate for my team to start automating other projects.  I learned how to create and execute automated and manual test scripts for smoke, regression, and functional testing.  I also worked collaboratively with QA, development and business groups to make sure comprehensive testing was completed on the desired project.
I was able to make amazing new friends, get a true feeling of what it’s like working in the field, and learned things that could better me not only in the work force but in my personal life as well.
