Dennis Adesso, Verrazzano Class 2021, completed major in Business Marketing
Having the opportunity to create my own project gave me the motivation and confidence to take everything I have learned in business and marketing, and put them to the test. With the constant changes of technology, it was exciting to research the different strategies that have evolved throughout the past decade and how businesses adapt to the ongoing changes. My topic’s goal was to research if social media would overpower mass media, resulting in the decline of traditional media forms such as newspapers and radio.
Working on the research during the pandemic caused the planning process to shift towards the ongoing situation. Companies were quick to adjust safety measures and to provide comfort during these times, while also planning long-term decisions depending on the duration of restrictions of travel and social distancing.
The most difficult part of this project I believe were the limited sources on current events related to marketing changes in-depth. While I was satisfied with the researched material, I hope that more articles or academic research papers emerge to give further guidance in the future. Time management was a new experience between work, school, and leadership activities all being done at home. Though that did mean I had more time to work on my studies, it was still important to create a timeline to keep priorities in order.
As innovations and events continue to arise, I would have like to see what new information people could research to incorporate into my project, which would help the foundation to continue stacking the building blocks. Who knows what new changes to technology could do to impact media, along with how other forms of advertising would work to co-exist with one another. More people have access to media in multiple ways and I am eager to witness what latest breakthroughs we will have for future marketing ideals.
